I try to do a couple running events each year. It helps me stay motivated to run. Which in turn keeps me healthy (and somewhat sane).
Cascade Lakes Relay– This is my favorite of all the runs I’ve ever done. I like it so much that I’ve done it five times (next summer will be my sixth). Two vans. Twelve team members. 216.6 miles. Absolutely breathtaking views. Laughs. Camaraderie. Perseverance. And not much sleep.
Helvetia Half Marathon – This is my favorite half marathon. It was voted the best half marathon in the Northwest, so apparently other people agree with me. It starts and ends at Hillsboro Stadium in Hillsboro, Oregon and winds through the hills of Hillsboro and Helvetia, showing off the spectacular views of the countryside.
Holiday Half Marathon – What could be better than running in December while carolers sing on street corners, runners are dressed like Santa Claus, elves, reindeer, and snowmen? Nothing really. I mean if you are going to run on a cold (sometimes harsh) Pacific Northwest December day it might as well be with costumes, singing, and jingle bells.
Hot Chocolate Run – Keeping in line with my thinking about the Holiday Half Marathon, if you’re going to run, then by all means there should be hot chocolate, and chocolate fondue with bananas, marshmallows, and graham crackers at the finish line. Plus they always offer great swag bags, and fun jackets/hoodies for participants. And the races can be found all around the country.
