The fourth week of Advent started on Christmas Eve Eve this year. If I’m completely honest we forgot to light the candle on our Advent wreath. We aren’t perfect. And even Advent is unmastered some times. But we did light candles. Lots of candles. First at the candlelight service at church and then on top of a birthday cake while we sang Happy Birthday to the Savior of the World.
Christmas Eve Eve is one of my favorite days of the year. Because we celebrate Christmas with family on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, we go to church with our “framily” (friends who feel like family) on Christmas Eve Eve. We stand together and sing praises to our Lord. We get to watch the sweetest videos featuring small children explaining the meaning of Christmas. We light candles and remember the birth of the true Light of the World. We hold those candles high. Light isn’t meant to be hidden.
“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” ~Matthew 5:14-16 (The Message Bible)
May you let your light shine bright this Christmas season and always!!
